Sometimes it pays to do a little troubleshooting buddy! I’m assuming a lot of other people would have just bought a new motor, or wouldn’t invest the money in it, and ditched the Saw. Worked out well for you congrats on your new table saw..
The husband passed away some time ago and the wife was left with 2 table saws the would not work. Sad but nobody knew what was wrong and the table saw had to go, so...I took a chance.
I got my first 70s craftsman, belt drive for $15 and just need mud dobber nests cleaned out of the motor. Sold it for $250 after I found a 1950s craftsman, belt drive in an add to remove scrap metal and spotted it in the pile of junk. So i got that one for free, just needed cleaned and tuned. Their old cast iron, belt driven saws are absolute BEASTS, especially if you add an aftermarket fence.
I’m going to call out the rebuke for the “drama” about the screw. He was overcome by the irony of what the problem turned out to be and how simple a fix it was but more over….the mystery of how in the devil a screw could have gotten into such a secured recess!!! I was as jaw dropped as he was but even more so, that with relatively very little time and effort, he’s now got one kickin table saw there!! Don’t be so quick to steal someone else’s WOW moments! Your level of bewilderment and wonder may be far less emotional but that’s nothing to be critical of! I’m tickled to death for him! I don’t have room in my shop for a saw of that size, but what a great addition to HIS shop! I wonder if the dearly departed husband had any idea what was wrong with it or, how that screw got there!! Excellent find and fix, if you ever decide to sell that saw, I'll gladly give you double what you paid for it. LOL
I would of used the air line instead of the leaf blower.
Many years ago my wife and I went to a job to give an estimate( we were remodeling contractors way back then), the lady tried to give us her dead husbands workshop tools. I had been eyeing them with a touch of envy. I told her that those tools were worth several thousand dollars...I mean cabinet saws and all the cabinet shop goodies. One metal lathe and etc. Of course we could have taken them but that thought never entered my mind. She gave us the job with the understanding to help her sell those tools. It took 4 days, no joke.
The problem was interesting. Yes it was a mystery how the screw got across the capacitor. However all the drama about it was way overboard. Nobody cares how it got there. Take it out and proceed with the troubleshooting. Sorry but thumbs down on this one. Take care and have a great day.
